About Us

The Cyprus Sociological Association was founded in Nicosia, Cyprus in November 1996.

The goals of the Association are:

  1. 1 To continue towards the spread of sociological thought in the Cypriot Society.
  2. 2 The education and training of the Association's members, as well as the promotion of their usefulness to the benefit of the society.
  3. 3 The safeguarding of the sociological profession and the promotion of the professional engagement of the members
  4. 4 The co-operation with research centers, tertiary education institutions and other bodies in matters of sociological interests.

Research on Football Violence in Cyprus

The project was conducted between 2000-2002 and focused on interviews with 200 football fans of 4 football teams in Cyprus

Research on Football Fan Violence in Cyprus

The project was conducted in 2000-2002 by the Cyprus Sociological Association and was funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation.

Results showed that violent fans are also involved in other forms of deliquent behaviour, that they show less interest in serving traditional social values and that there is predudice against police, media and club executives.
